SBT Accounting Systems is a full features high-end system.  The software alone, depending on the modules needed, will cost $7,500.00 or more.  SBT has the premium features to go along with its premium price, and is especially strong in inventory related areas.  A major advantage of SBT is that all of its specification and its code are open and can be customized for you.  What this means, also, is that hundreds of software developers have created add-ons to the basic software package.  This makes SBT extremely flexible, with specially developed modules created for many niche industries.

Cougar Mountain Accounting, also a full featured accounting system, is aimed at smaller businesses than SBT.  It costs, for all of its modules, between $300.00 and $1,500.00 depending on the number of users and what add-ons are purchased.  Cougar Mountain's features rival those of systems costing many times as much.  (There are areas in which, in our opinion, it clearly surpasses SBT, for example.)  It has enormous flexibility and thus is useful for many different kinds and sizes of businesses.  Its Point of Sales and Sales Order modules are particularly strong.

One-Write Plus has the features and capacity to handle most small businesses.  In our opinion, its is not as complete or as flexible as Cougar Mountain, but suitable for larger businesses than Quickbooks.  Because of its similiarty to the old, manual "one-write" accounting systems, it is generally quite easy to use.

Quickbooks is an extremely useful and efficient accounting system for the small business.  Its cost is nominal and it is faster to learn than SBT or Cougar Mountain;  however, it is nowhere near as flexible.  For many businesses this does not present any problems and Quickbooks can be a very good choice.
